NIAR-Saúde introduces the centre at the IV CI-IA Saúde Symposium

NIAR-Saúde took part in the IV CI-IA Saúde Symposium, held on 17 September 2026 at the Teaching Activities Centre (CAD 3), on UFMG’s Pampulha campus. Under the theme “AI and Health in Brazil: how to advance?”, the meeting brought together students, researchers, health professionals, managers and technology specialists to discuss not only scientific advances but the practical paths for taking artificial intelligence from research to safe, effective clinical use.

In the afternoon, the centre was introduced in the talk “Apresentação NIAR-Saúde (Centre for Responsible Artificial Intelligence for Health)”, presented by professors Mariangela Leal Cherchiglia, coordinator of Goal 6 and full professor in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, and Michele Amaral Brandão, coordinator of Goal 1 and associate professor in the Department of Computer Science, together with PhD student Ramon Gonçalves Pereira, who researches AI applied to health at the centre.

The CI-IA Saúde programme continued on the 18th with the CI-IA Saúde 2026 Challenge, aimed at high-school students, which called for prototypes of artificial-intelligence-based solutions for healthcare.
